Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to invite you to participate in the annual WiCS speed mentoring program at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society in Vancouver. In brief, the program will link junior scientists with senior scientists to meet briefly (for 15-20 minutes) during the WiCS reception on Thursday evening (November 9 at 6PM) for a speed mentoring session.

This program began in the last two years at the meetings of the Psychonomic Society, at the International Meeting of the Psychonomic Society Granada in 2016, and at the International Meeting of APS in Vienna in 2017. There are several ground rules for this program: 1. this is a one-time session (i.e., the mentor is not signing on for a longer-term mentoring relationship); 2. the mentee should come with a specific question or two to guide the session and make the most of it; 3. the mentee should send the mentor a CV and the question(s) ahead of time, but not expect that the mentor will have read this information prior to the meeting; and 4. the information shared during the session is to be kept completely confidential.

Both mentors and mentees from the previous sessions have reported finding the experience to be very useful.

Please note that the reception overlaps with the first hour of the Thursday evening poster session; mentoring sessions will begin promptly at 6 PM to allow mentors and mentees to attend a portion of the poster session.

If you are interested in being a mentor, please complete the Google document at the link given below before Monday, October 16.

If you are interested in being mentored, please complete the Google document at the link given below.  At this time, mentoring is open to WiCS members** on a first-come, first-served basis. **WiCS membership is free. You can join at http://www.womenincogsci.org/membership-form

Once mentors are secured, mentors and mentees will be matched based on general interest area.

Please share this email with others who you think may be interested.   All are welcome — female and male mentors and mentees alike!

We look forward to seeing you in Vancouver!
