Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct
Share |
Members of the Psychonomic Society adhere to Standard 8 of the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (which speaks to the ethics of conducting and publishing research, sharing data for the purpose of verification, and reviewing scholarly submissions) and to the following portions of other Standards in the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct that pertain to conducting and reporting psychological science:

  • If psychologists learn of misuse or misrepresentation of their work, they take reasonable steps to correct or minimize the misuse or misrepresentation.
  • Psychologists cooperate in ethics investigations.
  • Psychologists do not file or encourage the filing of ethics complaints that are made with reckless disregard for or willful ignorance of facts that would disprove the allegation.
  • Psychologists' work is based on established scientific and professional knowledge of the discipline; psychologists undertake ongoing efforts to maintain and develop their competence.
  • Psychologists refrain from taking on a professional role when personal, scientific, professional, legal, financial, or other interests or relationships could reasonably be expected to: 1) impair their objectivity, competence, or effectiveness in performing their functions as psychologists; or 2) expose the person or organization with whom the professional relationship exists to harm or exploitation.
  • Psychologists do not knowingly make public statements concerning their research or professional qualifications or positions that are false, deceptive, or fraudulent.
  • Psychologists create and maintain records regarding their research materials, procedures, and findings that will enable later detailed reporting and replication.
