John Hummel got his PhD in Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Science from the University of Minnesota in 1990, where he also held a one-year post-doctoral research fellowship. He was on the faculty at UCLA from 1991 - 2005. He has been on the faculty at the University of Illinois since 2005. John studies the representation and processing of relations in perception and cognition using both behavioral experiments and computational modeling. Specific topics include the perception of spatial relations, shape perception, relational reasoning, including analogical reasoning, the acquisition of relational concepts and belief revision.
