Psychophysiology Investigator

Draper Laboratory, Cambridge, Massachusetts

Draper Laboratory is seeking a knowledgeable investigator to lead research programs that utilize human signals from physiological sensors to interpret psychological state. Qualified candidates should be able to generate hypotheses based on theoretical knowledge and recently published research, develop research plans, coordinate resources, and direct staff in project execution. Duties of this position will include: developing experimental protocols, managing Institutional Review Board applications and approvals, supervising the recruitment and testing of human subjects, analyzing and interpreting experimental data, performing statistical analyses, and summarizing conclusions in publications and presentations to sponsors.

This is a very interactive and interdisciplinary position interfacing with Draper staff, expert academic collaborators, and program sponsors. The candidate should also have strong data management, processing, and statistical skills, particularly for psychological and/or behavioral data, and should have expertise in applying signal processing, feature development, and feature extraction techniques to data sets.

Qualifications: Minimum BS degree (PhD preferred) in psychology, sociology, anthropology or related social science with 1 to 3 years experience in behavioral analysis. Expertise with physiological sensors and signals, human testing, and statistics, particularly multivariate analysis, is required. Proficiency with statistical packages and techniques (specifically SPSS, hierarchical linear modeling, and structural equation modeling) and MATLAB is desired. Working knowledge of neurophysiology is a definite plus.

More information is available at the Draper Laboratory Web site (search under Careers). Interested candidates can send their resumes to rpwalker@draper.com.

Cognitive Psychology

University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts

The postdoctoral fellow will work on modeling of recognition memory. Qualified candidates will possess a recent Ph.D. in cognitive psychology or a closely related field; expertise in recognition memory, signal detection and/or reaction time modeling; and facility with statistics. The position will begin 7/6/2010 and continue through 7/5/2011, with the possibility of up to a one-year extension (contingent on funding and mutual agreement). Applicants should submit a CV, statement of research interests, and three letters of recommendation to Professor Caren Rotello, Department of Psychology, 135 Hicks Way, Tobin Hall, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003; caren@psych.umass.edu. Review of the applications will begin on June 7, 2010 and continue until the position is filled. The University of Massachusetts is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.

Embodied Cognition and Action

Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

A postdoctoral position is available in the Cognition and Action Laboratory directed by Dr. Laurel Buxbaum at Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI). The postdoctoral fellow will take a lead role in designing and conducting experimental work in the domain of embodied cognition, focusing on the relationships between action representations and object representations using behavioral, eyetracking, and TMS experiments with stroke, corticobasal degeneration, and healthy populations, and will incorporate state of the art lesion mapping methods.

MRRI is a vibrant collaborative research community focusing on cognitive neuroscience and cognitive rehabilitation. In addition to primary research with Dr. Buxbaum, the post provides opportunities to collaborate with Drs. Myrna Schwartz, Steve Jax, and Dan Mirman, as well as researchers at University of Pennsylvania including Dr. Branch Coslett. Training will be provided in voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping, TMS and tDCS, and functional neuroimaging.

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in cognitive psychology, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, or related field, a strong interest in cognitive neuropsychology, and be interested in developing an independent research career. Send CV, letter describing research interests and goals, and at least 2 letters of recommendation to Dr. Laurel Buxbaum at lbuxbaum@einstein.edu.

Behavioral Pharmacology
