Q&A with Karen Murphy, AERA, Co-Editor



P. Karen Murphy (Ph.D., University of Maryland) is Distinguished Professor of Educational Psychology at The Pennsylvania State University. She was a co-editor for the latest issue of Policy Insights from the Behavioral and Brain Sciences (PIBBS), which is focused on education research.

Concerns About a Possible Second Continuing Resolution Grow as the Deadline for the Current CR Draws Closer



On Wednesday, October 23, the Senate began debate on the first set of their fiscal year 2020 spending bills, HR 3055. This minibus includes four bills – Agriculture, Transportation-HUD, Interior-Environment and Commerce-Justice-Science. The House and Senate will also need to negotiate spending levels for the individual appropriations bills before conferencing bills. Disagreements, including about funding for a border wall, will make this a challenging task. Read more  »



House Science Committee Passes Scientific Integrity Act and Bipartisan Report on Politicization of Government Science


Last week, the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology passed the Scientific Integrity Act (HR 1709), a bill to strengthen scientific integrity policies across the federal government and to protect civil servant scientists and research data from political interference. The legislation would require some federal research agencies to develop and follow clear principles designed to protect scientists and the research they carry out from political influence.   Read more  »

Steven D. Hollon



Steven D. Hollon, Ph.D. is the Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Professor of Psychology at Vanderbilt University. His research focuses on the nature and treatment of depression, with a particular emphasis on the enduring effects of psychosocial treatments.
