NIH - FABBS Advocacy and Recent Awards


FABBS responded to NINDS Request for Comment on their strategic plan, with input from colleagues from the National Academy for Neuropsychology (NAN). The submission encouraged NINDS to increase the integration of basic neuroscience/neurological research with neuropsychological research, including specific examples, as they move forward with their strategic plan.


On October 30th, FABBS members met with Dr. Alison Cernich, the Deputy Director of NICHD and the point person on implementation of their strategic plan.  Read more  »






Members Announced for the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST)


Late last month, President Trump issued an executive order that brought new life to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), an advisory committee to advise the president on topics concerning science, technology, and innovation. Variations of this board date back to 1933 with former President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Science Advisory Board, but it officially became PCAST during President George H. W. Bush’s administration in 1990. The last meeting of PCAST was held under the Obama administration 33 months prior to the order. Read more  »







Senate Holds Hearing on Research’s Contributions to the Economy, Congress Continues Deliberations over FY 2020 Budget



Last month, the newly formed subcommittee on Science, Oceans, Fisheries, and Weather of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee convened a hearing to discuss “the role that research and innovation play in ensuring U.S. leadership in the global economy.” Read more  »







Sudip Parikh to head AAAS


The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has announced that Sudip Parikh will serve as the next chief executive officer and executive publisher of the Science family of journals. Read more  »


Member Society Events in DC


On October 24, Prudence L. Carter (University of California, Berkeley), presented the AERA Annual Brown Lecture in Education Research: “A Shade Less Offensive”: School Integration as Radical Inclusion in the Pursuit of Educational Equity.


On November 5, SPSSI held a congressional lunch briefing on Ableism: The Causes and Consequences of Disability Prejudice presented by Dr. Michelle R. Nario-Redmond, Hiram College.  Read more  »
