Laura Mickes's research has focused on enhancing our understanding of both the basic and applied aspects of recognition memory. Her basic research integrated dual process theory and signal detection theory (two venerable frameworks that once seemed inherently incompatible), and her applied research successfully challenged longstanding and seemingly settled notions about the proper way to conduct police lineups and about the relationship between eyewitness confidence and accuracy. Her work has already had a significant influence on real-world policy, and it underscores the often-unrealized potential of bridging basic and applied research. |
