Rick Dale is Professor of Communication at the University of California, Los Angeles. He runs the Communicative Mind Laboratory in the Department of Communication at UCLA. His research is on the cognitive science of human communication, with a focus on the dynamics of communicative behaviors: how human behavior is organized in time. His prior work has investigated several levels of analysis, from behavioral patterns in natural face-to-face conversation (e.g., eye movement, body movement), to larger-scale collective communication dynamics in social media and more. He has devised new quantitative methods for these domains and disseminated them broadly through symposia, workshops and shared libraries. He has served as Associate Editor for the journals Cognitive Science, Behavior Research Methods, and Discourse Processes. Published papers and research resources can be obtained by visiting his website https://co-mind.org/rick.
