Cindy Dell Clark is a psychological anthropologist, who has spent her career conducting research on children’s vantage points and experiences. Her published works include In Sickness and In Play, a family-based ethnography of how American children use play in a private setting, to cope with chronic illness. She has published the edited book Play and Wellbeing, as well as numerous other chapters and articles on the relationship of play, imagination and resilience. Interested in both play and ritual, Clark has been a trendsetter who has mentored doctoral students from diverse countries in child-centered methods of ethnographic inquiry. Her book In A Younger Voice serves as a guide for doing ethnographic research focused on children. Clark is an associate professor of anthropology at Rutgers University, Camden. She earned her PhD from the University of Chicago’s Department of Comparative Human Development.
