Student Travel Award from Developing Nations

New in 2025: The Governing Board doubles the number of travel grants given to Graduate Students from developing nations!

Overview

The Psychonomic Society will award up to five (5) ten (10) travel grants to current Graduate Student members who are traveling to the Annual Meeting from emerging or developing nations, as defined by the United Nations. Each recipient will receive a certificate, complimentary registration, and a stipend of $1,000 USD to support their participation in the annual meeting.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Current Graduate Student Member whose 2025 dues are paid
  • Currently live in an emerging or developing nation, as defined by the United Nations (view list of countries here.)
  • First author and presenter of a poster submitted for presentation at the 2025 Annual Meeting.
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in psychology or related field in an emerging or developing nation.
  • Have sufficient command of the English language for scientific presentations, as PS meetings are in English only


Application Process

  • Applicants must submit a sponsored poster abstract for the 2025 Annual Meeting. The abstract is submitted alongside your grant application.
  • Applicants must submit their application by May 8.
  • Applications must include:
    • Abstract Title of  your submitted abstract for the 2025 Annual Meeting.

    • Research Summary (999-word limit - optional) - Please explain how your research supports the mission of the Psychonomic Society to foster the science of cognition through the advancement and communication of basic research in experimental psychology and allied sciences. A research summary must be written by the applicant. Please do not include graphs or figures in your summary; those be uploaded in the next step.

    • Research summary supporting documentation (PDF upload/optional)   - If applicable, you may upload a PDF with supporting figures and graphs to complement your research summary.

    • Letter of Support from a sponsor   - Upload a letter of support from a sponsor. Your sponsor must be a current PS Fellow or Emeritus Fellow; it is fine if the sponsor is an author on the poster and/or the sponsor of your abstract. The letter of support should address why you should be selected for this grant, how the grant will support you as a student, and how the grant would help support your continued contributions to the field.

       

Presentation Requirements

For the 2025 program, poster presenters must present their research, pay the registration fee, and post a hard copy version of their poster at a scheduled poster session.

Please note that recipients of this grant who withdraw their poster from the 2025 annual meeting program may forfeit their cash stipend. 


Recipients Receive

  • Cash stipend ($1,000 USD), paid after the annual meeting.
  • Complimentary registration.

 

Process Overview

  • The Program Committee reviews each nomination and makes their recommendation to the Governing Board for final approval.
  • Successful candidates are notified by the Society 6-8 weeks after the deadline.
  • Recipients are not eligible for the award in the following year.
  • The committee reserves the right to rotate recipient countries if too many applications are submitted from one country.
