In the Summer of 2011, the Governing Board of the Psychonomic Society set up the International Presence Committee to maximize quality of talks and publications; maximize the reach of the society and dissemination of journals outside of North America, and foster new collaborations.
In November 2013, the Governing Board, upon recommendation of the International Presence Committee, voted to hold its first non-partnered, non-North American meeting, Psychonomics International (previously the International Meeting of the Psychonomic Society) in Granada, Spain in May of 2016. The meeting was a resounding success, with almost 1,000 attendees, and both the Governing Board and International Presence Committee approved holding this meeting every two to three years in the future. A second meeting was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in May of 2018. Again, the meeting was a resounding success, with slightly less attendees.
