Randall W. Engle received his BS from W. Va. State College, an HBCU. His Ph.D. is from Ohio State University. His first job was at King College in Tennessee. He taught 10 classes per year which made him a teacher. He then moved to the University of South Carolina for the next 21 years before moving to Georgia Institute of Technology as Chair of Psychology. He was editor of Current Directions in Psychological Science for 10 years. His research for the past 40 years has explored the nature of working memory, executive attention, and cognitive control. His work has been funded by various agencies including NICHHD, AFOSR, and ONR. Harzing’s Publish or Perish shows that Engle’s work has been cited over 58,000 times. He is a fellow of APA, APS, AAAS, and Society of Experimental Psychology. He has served as Chair of the Governing Board of the Psychonomic Society and President of Division 3 of APA. He received the first APA Division 3 Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2020.
