Executive control
Dr. Verbruggen’s contributions to psychology are in the study of ʻexecutive controlʼ mechanisms. He examines how people withhold inappropriate or risky actions (response inhibition), suppress task-irrelevant information (interference control), and switch between tasks. He also studies how executive control and learning interact. As well as his theoretical and methodological contributions to the field, his work has opened up promising new avenues for treating impulsive disorders.
