James Brockmole is the Joseph and Elizabeth Robbie College Professor of Psychology and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame. He received a BA in Psychology and Sociology in 1999 from Notre Dame and his PhD in Psychology in 2003 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After a post-doctoral fellowship at Michigan State University and a faculty appointment at the University of Edinburgh, he returned to Notre Dame in 2009. Brockmole’s research interests lie in elucidating the attentional processes through which visual information is selected for encoding, the subsequent representation of objects and scenes in memory, and the mechanisms by which stored knowledge about the visual world in turn guides ongoing action and behavior. He has previously served as Associate Editor of both Attention, Perception, & Psychophysics and The Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance. On January 1, 2020 Brockmole will become Editor-in-Chief of Psychonomic Bulletin & Review.
