Thomas J. (Tom) Faulkenberry is a Professor of Psychology and currently serves as Associate Dean of the College of Graduate Studies at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, USA. Originally trained as a mathematician (MS in Mathematics from Oklahoma State University in 2002), his passion for teaching mathematics led him to pursue advanced study in mathematical cognition, leading to a Ph.D. in Psychology at Texas A&M University – Commerce in 2010. His early work focused on the cognitive mechanisms of number representation and basic mental arithmetic. Later, he began to focus his work on statistical inference, with particular interest in Bayesian methods. Combining this work with his experience in teaching mathematics, he has written two books in Routledge’s popular “The Basics” series, including Psychological Statistics: The Basics, published in 2022, and the forthcoming Bayesian Statistics: The Basics, which will appear sometime in 2025.Additionally, he is a fervent advocate for developing open educational resources, including his book Learning Statistics with JASP (co-authored with Danielle Navarro and David Foxcroft), a free, open-source textbook that is currently being used for courses in 32 different countries.

In addition to performing editorial roles at journals including Behavior Research Methods and the Journal of Numerical Cognition, Tom has held several leadership roles within scientific societies, including serving as President of the Southwestern Psychological Association, an organization for which he also served as Treasurer for 4 years and an Executive Board member for 2 years before that. He has also served as Chair of the Joint Committee on Statistics and Data Science Education, co-sponsored by the American Statistical Association and the Mathematical Association of America. He currently serves as Chair of the Psychonomic Society Finance Committee.
