The Call for Applications closed on January 31.
The committee will be formed in the first quarter of 2024.
The Graduate Student and Postdoc Committee (GSPC) aims to foster the development of trainees and early career professionals in cognitive and experiential psychology. Applications will close on January 31, 2024.
Goals & Responsibilities: The goal is to promote and encourage graduate students and postdocs to participate in Society activities and provide information to the Society’s board, committees, and staff. The GSPC plays an integral role in furthering the mission of the Society by providing a voice for students and postdocs within the Society and developing networking opportunities, as well as helping the Society to be current in meeting the needs of all of its members. The Committee will prioritize DEI in every aspect of their work.
The committee will:
- Evaluate the structure of the annual meeting, ensuring that the program includes events and opportunities that meet the needs of graduate students and postdocs.
- Propose new initiatives that meet the needs of graduate students and postdocs, potentially including the development of mentorship programs, lunchtime workshops at the annual meeting or online workshops about preparing for a variety of careers or other topics of interest, or content for the Society’s website.
- Consult with the Governing Board and standing committees to provide graduate student and postdoc input when needed (e.g., providing feedback on Society reports, such as Strategic Planning; identifying potential candidates when student or postdoc committee representatives are needed; advising on best practices for collecting demographics information to improve Society record keeping).
- Contribute to the development of the new undergraduate student membership category. This could include brainstorming ways to encourage membership or to meet the needs of undergraduates through Society programming.
Number of Members: The Committee will consist of up to six trainees (e.g., (3) graduate student members; (3) postdoctoral fellows). One committee member will be selected as chair by the committee, who will be the main point of contact. A staff member will support the committee’s activities.
Method of Appointment: Members shall be chosen using an application process, facilitated initially by a temporary selection committee. After the initial committee is created, future committee member applicants will be selected by the GSPC. Undergraduate student members may be considered for membership in future years.
Term of Office: Inaugural members shall serve from April 1 through May 31. Future members will serve from June through May 31. The appointment may be renewed for an additional year contingent on approval by the Committee’s chair. Terms shall be staggered for continuity.
Frequency of Meetings: The Committee shall meet via conference call twice a year and may meet face-to-face during the Annual Meeting providing a majority of committee members are attending. Special projects may require additional time.
