Gutchess Elected as 2023 Chair of the Psychonomic Society Governing Board

Angela GutchessThe Psychonomic Society Governing Board is pleased to announce that they have elected Angela Gutchess (Brandeis University, USA) to become Chair of the Board in 2023.

 

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve the Psychonomic Society in this role," Gutchess said. "Psychonomics was the first conference I attended in graduate school, so it has been immensely rewarding to be a part of the Governing Board, joining the efforts of so many who have strengthened the Society over the past 60+ years. I look forward to contributing to the ongoing mission to be a vibrant, inclusive society for rigorous cognitive research."

 

Gutchess currently chairs the Society's Program Committee. She is also a member of the Awards Committee, which she chaired in 2020.

 

In August, Myra Fernandes (University of Waterloo, Canada) and Zenzi Griffin (University of Texas at Austin, USA) were elected by the Society's membership to join the Governing Board. Fernandes and Griffin will begin their six-year terms on January 1, 2022. In January 2022, Penny M. Pexman (University of Calgary, Canada) becomes Chair of the Governing Board, and Duane Watson (Vanderbilt University, USA) becomes Past Chair. Governing Board members who conclude their terms in 2021 include Edward Awh (University of Chicago, USA) and Laura Carlson (University of Notre Dame, USA). Biography
 

Angela Gutchess’s research investigates the influence of age and culture on memory and social cognition using behavioral, neuroimaging, and patient methods. She attended Boston University for her BA/BS degrees, University of Michigan for her PhD, and completed Postdoctoral training at MGH/Harvard. Currently, she is a Professor of Psychology at Brandeis University, with appointments in Neuroscience and the Volen Center for Complex Systems.

 

Angela has been on the Psychonomic Society Governing Board since 2019 and is an Associate Editor at the Journal of Gerontology: Psychological Sciences. Previously, she served as an Associate Editor at Memory & Cognition, as well as Cognition and Memory. In addition to her empirical research, she has published books on cognitive aging: The Cognitive and Social Neuroscience of Aging, and The Cambridge Handbook of Cognitive Aging: A Life Course Perspective (co-edited with Ayanna Thomas).
