John M. Henderson is Professor of Psychology, a core member of the Center for Mind and Brain, and a research member of the Center for Vision Science and the Center for Neuroscience at the University of California, Davis. He received his PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1988. He has held academic appointments in Canada (University of Alberta) and the UK (University of Edinburgh) as well as the US. His research focuses on visual cognition and visual attention. He has been continuously funded since he received his PhD by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Army Research Office in the US, the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council in Canada, and the Economic and Social Research Council and the Leverhulme Foundation in the UK. Henderson is a fellow of the Psychonomic Society, the Association for Psychological Science, and the American Psychological Association. He has served as Editor of Visual Cognition, and as Associate Editor of Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Perception & Psychophysics, Journal of Eye Movement Research, and Collabra. His service to the Psychonomic Society includes membership on the Young Investigator Award, Editor Search, and Program committees. He has published over 170 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, has edited or co-edited four books, and has written for Slate, The Conversation, and The Academic Minute.
