Jeanette Altarriba is Professor in the Department of Psychology and Interim Dean, College of Arts and Sciences, at the University at Albany, State University of New York. She received her BA (1986) from Florida International University and her MA (1988) and PHD (1990) from Vanderbilt University. Her research has been funded by the American Psychological Association, and from institutions such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University at Albany, the State University of New York (SUNY), and more recently from Prince Sultan University for the study of COVID-19 Health Communication and Key Moderators of Message Framing. She has served or is serving as Associate Editor for Language and Speech, the Latino Review of Books, and The Mental Lexicon. She has also served as Consulting Editor for the International Journal of Bilingualism, the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, Memory & Cognition, the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, and the American Journal of Psychology, just to name a few. She is the recipient of the Dalmas A. Taylor Distinguished Contributions Award for the Development of Ethnic Minority Psychologists, and the Early Career Achievement Award in Teaching and Training from the American Psychological Association. She is also a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, the Midwestern Psychological Association, and the Psychonomic Society. Of her many presentations at scientific conferences and related venues, most notable was her selection as the James E. Alatis Plenary Speaker at the 50th annual meeting of the TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo where she presented her work, Beyond Linguistic Borders: Language Learning Cradled in Cognition. Altarriba is the Editor or Co-Editor of seven books including Cognition and Culture, Foundations of Bilingual Memory, Methods in Bilingual Reading Comprehension, and An Introduction to Bilingualism: Principles and Processes which is now in its second edition. She has published more than 80 peer-reviewed research articles, and is a sought-after speaker and presenter on a variety of topics related to her research interests.
