Daniel Mirman is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Philosophy, Psychology, and Language Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. He received a BA
in Psychology and Chemistry in 2000 from Cornell University and a PhD in Psychology in 2005 from Carnegie Mellon University. After a post-doctoral fellowship at University of Connecticut investigating the dynamics of spoken word comprehension, he held an Institute Scientist position at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute, where he began his research on acquired language impairments. He then moved into faculty positions at Drexel University and University of Alabama at Birmingham, before joining the University of Edinburgh in 2019. Mirman’s research examines language processing and language impairments, focusing on the cognitive architecture and neural basis of semantic cognition, including more recent work on comprehension of figurative language and narratives, and spoken discourse production in aphasia. He co-organised the 38th (2016) Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Society and has served as Associate Editor of Cognitive Science and Cortex. On 1 January 2024, Mirman will become Editor-in-Chief of Psychonomic Bulletin & Review.
