Kristi S. Multhaup is the Vail Professor of Psychology at Davidson College in North Carolina. She earned her BA (1987) from Gustavus Adolphus College and her MA (1990) and PhD (1992) from Princeton University. Multhaup completed post-doctoral research at Washington University in St. Louis and at Duke University. She served as Chair of the Davidson College Psychology Department (2018-2022) and as Interim Chair for Spring 2023. Multhaup’s research in cognitive aging has explored age-related differences in source memory, working memory, flashbulb memory, inhibitory control, boundary extension, and magical thinking. She was PD/co-PI on a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded project that explored the effects of visual and auditory game playing on older adults’ cognitive performance (2012-2017). Multhaup regularly supports student-led projects in areas that combine the student’s passions with her interests, such as a recent article demonstrating that horses, like humans, benefit from spaced practice and two additional articles exploring working memory in Deaf signers and hearing nonsigners. Multhaup currently serves as a member of the five-person leadership team for Women in Cognitive Science (2020-present) and is completing her year as President of the Society for Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Science (APA Division 3). Specifically related to Psychonomics, Multhaup has served as Consulting Editor for Memory & Cognition (2013-present) and on the Psychonomic Society Program Committee (2016-2018). In 2017, she collaborated with four other Psychonomics members to organize the session, Encouraging Future Scientists: Supporting Undergraduates at Psychonomics (UP). She has attended every annual meeting of the Psychonomic Society since 1991.
