Brian Ross is Dean of Arts & Sciences for the Minerva Schools at KGI, a new university where all classes use active learning. Before moving to Minerva, Ross spent most of his career at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He studied how people learn in complex domains and how they use this knowledge for induction, understanding, and problem solving. At Illinois, Ross moved from full-time professor to other positions within the Department and College, ending as Interim Dean of Arts & Sciences. He now focuses on how to improve educational practices. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the Institute of Education Sciences, and has included interdisciplinary work with computer scientists and physicists. Ross is a Fellow of the Association of Psychological Science and the Psychonomic Society, plus was a member of the Psychonomic Society Governing Board and Chair. He edited Memory & Cognition and was also editor of the Psychology of Learning and Motivation book series. Ross greatly appreciates the help of the many mentors, colleagues, and students he has been lucky enough to work with over the years.
