Bennett Schwartz is a Professor at Florida International University. He received an AB in Psychology in 1988 and his PhD in Psychology in 1993 from Dartmouth College. His primary research area is metacognition and its relation to memory. In particular, his research has focused on tip-of-the-tongue states, feelings of knowing and judgments of learning, heuristics in metacognition, and applications of metacognition to education. He is also interested in episodic memory and metacognition in non-human animals. He authored a textbook on Human Memory and co-authored a textbook on Sensation and Perception. Dr. Schwartz is a fellow of the Psychonomic Society as well as a past president of the Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology. Before his term as Editor-in-Chief of Memory & Cognition, he served as Editor-in-Chief of New Ideas in Psychology and as a current associate editor for Metacognition and Learning, and past associate editor for Acta Psychologica, and Journal of Applied Memory and Cognition.
