The Peer Reviewers' Openness Initiative

The Peer Reviewers' Openness Initiative, an open science initiative proposed (in part) by Psychonomic society members, is now in press at the journal Royal Society Open Science. The Initiative seeks to increase the prevalence of open data and materials through mass action of peer reviewers: when reviewing, reviewers would refuse to provide comprehensive review of articles that do not provide open data or materials, or at least provide a justification for lack of openness. The Initiative is driven by the idea that peer review is the heart of science, and the basic values of science -- such as openness -- should be reflected in peer reviews.
