FABBS Member Societies: If you have been following federal budget matters closely or reading my recent newsletters articles (for example, http://www.fabbs.org/news/budget-deal-needed-science-agencies-its-only-start/), you know that we have been working with various coalitions in Washington, DC to get Congress to reach a budget deal that would allow them to raise the restrictive sequester spending levels. I am happy to report that there is a now a deal. It must be passed by the House and Senate, but we do not anticipate any problems with passage now that a deal is in hand. Below, one of the coalitions to which we belong provides an initial summary of the deal. It may be a bit wonky, but I wanted you to know that it should allow for reasonable increases in spending for the science agencies that fund our research, especially NIH and NSF, among others. More details to come after we have had a chance to review the deal in detail. Best, Paula Skedsvold, JD PhD FABBS
