CNS Hosts Virtual Meeting May 2-5

The Cognitive Neuroscience Society (CNS), brings together scientists committed to understanding the nature of thought by investigating the psychological, computational, and neuroscientific basis of cognition. Forced to cancel their in-person meeting due to the pandemic, CNS will be holding a virtual meeting on May 2-5, 2020, providing participants with an opportunity to share their work and connect with an international audience of attendees. Congress Passes Fourth COVID-19 Relief Package
Over the past seven weeks, Congress has passed four supplemental bills - approaching a total of $3 trillion - to help address the health and economic consequences of COVID-19. The most recent package, HR 266, was signed into law on Friday, April 24th. The final vote for the $483 billion relief measure followed two weeks of contentious negotiations. Read more»

COVID-19 and Increased Racial Discrimination
The repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting almost every aspect of our daily lives. Beyond the catastrophic physical health and economic implications, the pandemic is introducing new challenges in the scientific research enterprise, including the stigmatization of Asians. Tracing the Effects of Childhood Trauma
What happens when the maternal-child relationship breaks down? Bridget Callaghan thought about this question even as a child and is devoting her professional career to finding answers. “We’re trying to understand how experiences, especially of adversity, influence the development of the brain and body, and how they interact to produce physical and mental health and disease outcomes,” said Callaghan, assistant professor of psychology and director of the Brain and Body Lab (BABLab) at UCLA.
