NASEM Council on Science Integrity

On October 25, the new Strategic Council for Research Excellence, Integrity, and Trust at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) held its first meeting. The discussion touched on a number of questions, including how to collect fair and equitable data and the role of the federal government versus that of the academy. Read more»

 

Modernizing Federal Support Agencies to Meet the Research and Information Needs of Congress

The House of RepresentativesSelect Committee on the Modernization of Congressheld a hearing on “Modernizing the Congressional Support Agencies to Meet the Needs of an Evolving Congress”on October 21. Witnesses representing the Congressional Research Service (CRS), the Government Accountability Office (GAO), and the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) spoke about role of these agencies to support the science and technology information needs of Congress.Read more »

 

Mixed Signs for Federal Research Funding

A bipartisan group of House and Senate Appropriators left a November 2 meeting pessimistic about the chance of agreement on federal spending levels for fiscal year (FY) 2022. Earlier this year, Congress passed a stopgap continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open through December 3, at which point a shutdown will go into effect if lawmakers are unable to find bipartisan agreement.Read more »

 

New Coalition on Gun Violence Prevention Research

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently launched a new coalition advocating for the future of gun violence prevention (GVP) research funding – the GVP Research Roundtable. FABBS joined the discussion to collaborate on efforts to support top-line research funding requests that would include firearms research.Read more »

 

Researcher Documents Benefits of Targeted Conversation in Helping Parents and Children Impacted by Discrimination

Congratulations to Dr. Riana Elyse Anderson on receiving the 2021 FABBS Early Career Impact Award, as nominated by the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD). Dr. Anderson is an emerging leader in the understanding of how racial discrimination affects the development of children and youth, and what approaches can be taken to buffer the negative effects of discrimination.Read more »
