EHR Advisory Committee Meeting

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Advisory Committee (AC) on Education and Human Resources (EHR) met November 3-4 for its regular oversight of the Directorate’s mission and activities. Friends of NIAAA Briefing on eHealth and Alcohol Use Disorder Treatment 

On November 3, the Friends of National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), of which FABBS and APA serve on the executive committee, hosted the webinar titled “Telehealth and eHealth for the Treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder during the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond” to discuss research examiningtelehealth as a modality for treatment foralcohol misuse in vulnerable populations.Read more »

 

NASEM Workshop on Researcher Engagement 

The National Academies of Sciences, Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education has a Standing Committee on Advancing Science Communication that brings together diverse disciplines contributing to science communication research and practice with a mission ‘to more effectively engage all communities with science in ways that are equitable, evidence-based, and inclusive.’ On November 12, the Committee hosted a workshop on Institutional Barriers and Incentives for Engaged Research.Read more »

 

Hill Updates: NSF Reauthorization and Funding for Health Research

This week, the House and Senate agreed to begin official negotiations on a package of legislation which includes NSF Reauthorization, as previously reported on in the FABBS newsletter. Earlier this year, the House and Senate passed dramatically different versions of the legislation, and have been unable to reconcile differences. Congress announced that they had agreed to form a conference committee to negotiate differences. 

FABBS participated in virtual visits to Capitol Hill as a part of the Coalition for Health Funding’s Public Health Week of Action. We joined other public health advocates to meet with Senate staff, encouraging strong funding for health programs.Read more »
