The House passed the ARPA-H Act on June 22, which would authorize the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health through 2027. Meanwhile, work continues on legislation to reauthorize the National Science Foundation (NSF), as part of a larger package of bills aimed at boosting American economic competitiveness.Read more »

 

House Appropriators released fiscal year (FY) 2023 funding proposals this week, including increases to the NIH, NSF, and Institute of Education Sciences (IES) budgets. These bills reflect Democratic priorities, and final appropriations legislation will need bipartisan support to pass the Senate.Read more »

 

FABBS is a sponsor of the recently released consensus study by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, “Accelerating Behavioral Science Through Ontology Development and Use.” A committee of experts on ontological systems convened to investigate the challenges preventing the behavioral sciences from being fully integrated across disciplines. The report lists opportunities for FABBS to play a role in addressing this challenge.Read more »

 

2022 Undergraduate Research Excellence Award Winners

The FABBS Undergraduate Research Excellence Awards, offered to our Departmental and Division Affiliates, honor undergraduate student scientists who have conducted research of superior quality and with broader societal impact.

Justin Grady, George Washington University, received the award for his work in the field of visual cognition. His research looks at the negative impact of fatigue on visual search, using data from a mobile game app.Read more »

Eva McAlister López, University of Michigan, received the award for her research in literacy development within bilingual children. Her focus is on the morphological awareness skills that transfer from one language to another. Read more »

 

Congratulations to Dr. Victoria Leong on receiving the 2022 Early Career Impact Award, as nominated by the International Congress of Infant Studies (ICIS), for pioneering the breakthrough technique dyadic-EEG (or dual-electroencephalography) to study neural synchrony in parents and infants. Dr. Leong's research looks at how the interplay of social behaviors impacts age-appropriate learning, cognition, and social-emotional development in children.Read more »
