The Biden administration issued apress releaseandmemoproviding guidance to federal agencies to make research freely available, without an embargo. Along with the memo, OSTP published an analysis document -“Economic Landscape of Federal Public Access Policy.”FABBS supports the concepts of open science and is actively engaged with the administration to help navigate the complexity of advancing these goals with maintaining the rigor, inclusivity, and sustainability of the scientific infrastructure.Read more »

 

Following a remarkably eventful August, during which Congress passed both the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, members of Congress will be eager to wrap up work on the fiscal year 2023 budget — almost certain to be a continuing resolutionin order to return to their districts to campaign for the November election.Read more »

 

The mission of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) is to provide Congress, heads of executive agencies, and the public with timely information that can be used to improve government and save taxpayers billions of dollars. FABBS tracks GAO reports relevant to federal agencies funding behavioral and brain research. This past summer, GAO issued three reports of interest to FABBS members.Read more»

 

With thanks to several of our societies including Cognitive Science Society, Cognitive Neuroscience Society, and Flux Society,FABBS respondedto questions posed in the NINDSRequest for Information (RFI) on Advancing Research in Fundamental Neuroscience (FN). This RFI sought input from the scientific community regarding the opportunities and obstacles for FN research to accelerate our understanding of the normal development, structure, and function of nervous systems.

 

FABBS is excited to announce the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Awards, to recognize distinguished research, professional practice, and activities (such as mentorship), that advance these principles in the behavioral and brain sciences. One IDEA Award will be given for each of the two categories: senior scholar and early to mid-career (within 15 years post-PhD).
