Members of Congress are negotiating to keep the federal government open after the end of the current fiscal year (FY) 22 on September 30th. They are working on a short-term continuing resolution (CR), expected to last until December 16th, to provide flat funding to federal agencies and programs. This means that federal agencies supporting our disciplinesIES, NIH, NSF, ARPA-H, and other critical science agencieswill be held in limbo, yet again, awaiting a budget for FY 23.Read more »

 

President Biden has selected Dr. Renee Wegrzyn to serve as the first director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). She has held key positions at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency (I-ARPA). ARPA-H will seek to increase the pace of health research, with a focus on prioritizing high-risk, high-reward research.Read more »

 

During the September meeting, the Council of Councils approved two new concepts that are of great interest to FABBS members. The first concept seeks to address the lack of a common vocabulary within behavioral and social science research (BSSR), while the second concept debuts a new Common Fund Program, titled “Advancing Health Communication Science and Practice.”Read more»

Nominate a scientist whose distinguished research, professional practice, and activities (such as mentorship) advance Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility principles in the behavioral and brain sciences. Now accepting nominations for each of the two categories: senior scholar and early to mid-career (within 15 years post-PhD).
