Abstract
This lecture will talk about ways that we can tinker with our sleep though a new science of sleep engineering. The aim of this science are firstly to better understand sleep and why it is important, and secondly to improve health (for instance slowing the ageing process) and cognition (for instance boosting memories and reducing negative emotions). There is also evidence that sleep engineering could facilitate creative processes like extraction of gist from a corpus of information or forming novel links. In this talk I will introduce sleep and show what we can do to it with sleep engineering. I will also talk about potential future applications of sleep engineering to clinical problems.
