The Psychonomic Society announces James R. Pomerantz to become 2020 Governing Board Chair.

The Psychonomic Society Governing Board has elected James R. Pomerantz, Rice University, as the 2020 Chair.

"It's an honor and privilege to serve on the Governing Board of the Psychonomic Society, which is the world’s preeminent society for the experimental study of cognition," Pomerantz said. "In becoming its chair, I am fortunate to follow a distinguished line of cognitive psychologists dating back to 1960. The first publication of my career was in a Psychonomics journal, and the Society has been my go-to professional organization ever since."

Pomerantz currently chairs the Society's Finance Committee and is a member of the Publications Committee. Looking to the future of the Psychonomic Society, he said, "It’s a time of great opportunity for us to expand our international presence still further while meeting profound forces of change looming on the horizon in academic publishing. We have grown significantly in recent years both in membership (now at 4,000+) and diversity, and we have grown as well in the range and quality of our scholarly publications. My goal will be to work with the full Board and our Executive Director and staff to continue that upward trend."

In September, Angela Gutchess, Brandeis University, and Michael J. Kane, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, were elected by the Society’s membership and will join the Governing Board in January for a six-year term.

In January 2019, Laura Carlson, University of Notre Dame, becomes Governing Board Chair and John Dunlosky, Kent State University, will be Past Chair. Governing Board Members who conclude their terms in 2018 are Teresa Bajo, University of Granada, Spain, and Aaron Benjamin, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
