The National Science Board (NSB) and The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) recently released their biannual report,“The State of U.S. Science and Engineering.”The report outlines trends in the science and engineering (S&E) workforce, including demographic data on the labor force and in education, and places U.S. research and development investments in global and historical context.Read more »

 

On February 8th, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy will testify at a hearing for the Senate Finance Committee to discuss challenges in mental health care for American youth. This testimony follows thereportand Surgeon General’s Advisory to address the nation’s youth mental health crisis. Read more »

 

President Biden recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of his presidency. His administration has made significant progress to improve federal support for science, but additional work remains. President Biden has made important efforts to improve the scientific capacity within the federal government, supported strong funding for research, and worked to incorporate scientific evidence in Administration policy. FABBS has worked cooperatively with the new Administration since day one and will continue to serve as a resource and advocate for the behavioral sciences going forward.Read more »

 

Dr. Carlotta M. Arthur has been selected to take the reins as the new executive director at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education (DBASSE), starting on February 14th. She will succeed Mary Ellen O’Connell, who has served the Academies for 20 years. FABBS is grateful to O’Connell for advancing FABBS’ sciences by leading studies in a wide range of brain and behavioral topics.Read more »
